I received a question about the reading from 2 Timothy 2, in particular verses 20-21.

2 TIMOTHY 2:20-21. In a large house there are utensils not only of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for special use, some for ordinary. All who cleanse themselves of the things I have mentioned will become special utensils, dedicated and useful to the owner of the house, ready for every good work.

In light of the question - "Is everyone supposed to be involved in service for Jesus?" - I think what jumps out at me - is that there are all kinds of utensils - some flashy, some quite plain - but as long as a utensil is "clean" it can be put to good use.

So we are the utensils - anyone CAN be used for a good purpose by the "owner of the house" (the Lord) - but there is preparation (cleansing) to make a utensil usable. (An expensive crystal bowl could be contaminated, while a plain clay pot could be clean and ready to use!)
